7th March - NMYC held its Second Open Event, the Whitlingham Trophy.
This year we had much better conditions than last year, with a good breeze all day.
OoD Duncan Ellis took advantage of the steady easterly breeze to set the classic triangle and sausage course, so providing three good beats to windward in each race. Some small adjustments to the starting line and the windward mark were made over the first few races as the wind veered slightly.
A single fleet of twelve boats competed with close racing at the top of the field. The end of the event found Denis Astbury and Graham Bantock tied for first place with Denis winning the tie-break with his eight 1st places to Graham’s six.

2010 1st series (Click here for the Officer of the Day and Event Schedule.)

6th March
Eight members entered the fourth event in the IOM series. The weed problems would appear now to be behind us which, combined with a brisk ENE breeze, gave good racing conditions, with most boats changing down to the No.2 suit by the end of the event. Click here for the results details, and click here to see the IOM series positions to date or go to the results page.

27th February
11 members (including new member Peter Rawlings) entered the third event in the IOM series. There were no significant weed problems but racing conditions were tricky in the WSW light airs. Six heats were held before a heavy rain shower brought an end to proceedings. Click here for the results details, and click here to see the IOM series positions to date or go to the results page.

20th February
Six members entered the second event in the RM series. Some boats suffered the effects of weed, particularly near course marker buoys. Click here to see the detail results and click here to see the RM series positions to date, or go to the results page.

13th February
Despite a very cold NNE breeze right in their faces, 10 members and one guest put boats on the water. A rain/sleet squall precipitated an early coffee break, whereupon conditions improved until the seventh heat which ended in worsening rain that brought the proceedings to a close. As only seven heats were recorded skippers could benefit from just one discard. Click here to see the detail results and click here to see the series positions to date, or go to the results page.
6th February

The third scheduled RM event was cancelled because the overnight return of cold weather had left large areas of the Broad covered in ice. Even if there had been no ice the still air would have proven very frustrating.

30th January
The third scheduled IOM event got the IOM side of the series under way. Six hardy skippers and as many member spectators braved a very cold brisk westerly wind that provided excellent racing conditions only marred by significant amounts of weed. Click here to see the results or view the results page

23rd January
The series got away with the second scheduled RM event  Light winds from the north-west found all seven boats in the 'A' suit. A few boats suffered from weed problems. Click here to see the results or view the results page

16th January
The second scheduled IOM event was cancelled, despite the onset of a thaw, because of ice floes and large rafts of floating weed debris.

9th January
The first scheduled RM event was cancelled because the Broad remained iced over.

2nd January
Unfortunately significant icing caused the first IOM event of the series to be cancelled.

2009 3rd series
19th December
should have seen the final IOM event in the 2009 3rd series but large rafts of dying weed made it impossible to hold the event. So the 2009 IOM 3rd series was decided on the 28th November by the best three scores out of four events. Click here for the final positions or view the results page.

12th December  would have seen only the second RM event in the 2009 3rd series but serious weeding made it impossible to to hold the event, so the results for the 28th November decide the series Click here for the results or view the results page.

5th December 2008. The fourth IOM event in the 2009 3rd series was held in a light south westerly breeze, with part of the course in wind shadow, so all boats were in the No. 1 suit. Weed played a significant part in the results, the first race (set over a full 'triangle and sausage course) seeing only five of the ten competing boats finishing. The rescue boat surveyed the course, pointing out areas of infestation, so subsequent races were held over a straight windward-leeward course to avoid the weed.  Most boats were still affected by some weeding. Click here for the results of the third IOM event in the series and click here for the series positions to date, or view the results page

28th November 2009. The first RM event in the 2009 3rd series was at last held in a brisk westerly breeze. Weed is now almost playing no part in marring races. Click here for the results or view the results page.
It was agreed by all who participated in this event that both the results of the 28-11-09 event and the 12-12-09 event would count to decide the outcome of the series.

2010 finds us holding three open events:
Whitlingham Trophy
for Marbleheads (RM) on Sunday 7th March
Yare Cup
for IOMs  on Sunday 20th June
We are hosting a Micro Magic event on Saturday 11th September

26/01/09 - New IOM sail maker...

We had an email recently from Simon Clark from Falmouth in Cornwall. Simon has recently setup a small company selling sails for IOM yachts. You can find his website at www.spindriftsails.co.uk.

Simon also tells us the intention of the site is to act as a resource for any useful hints and tips people have on anything from rigging advice to sailing techniques.

If any of you have any pearls of wisdom you might want to share he would be very keen to hear from you!

26/01/09 - Marbleheads in action...

A steady westerly breeze produced a mix of ‘A’ and ‘B’ suit decisions, although the wind never got strong enough to embarrass those on ‘A’ suits.

Geoff Vaizey won despite being on a ‘B’ suit. Pete Sutton, in second place was on an ‘A’ suit.

Weed proved to be very frustrating with everybody suffering in many races. Apparently this was due to some construction activity elsewhere on the Broad.

26/01/09 - 2009 IOM Results...

This was the first chance to start the 2009 IOM 1st series of events (the previous Saturday was lost because 90% of the Broad was iced over).

A stiff and gusting westerly breeze was too much for some of the No. 1 suits and rain early delayed the start so only 6 races were recorded, with five scores.

14/01/09 - Issue 3 of OOD Rota...

The latest release of the OOD schedule is now on the website.

05/01/09 - New Radio Marblehead series begins...

The first event in the 2009 Marblehead 1st series was held in ,initially, a very light WNW wind. The wind gradually strengthened and veered to the NW, but time only allowed for six races, so only one discard was applied.

Cheryl Sutton officiated with assistance from Ron Vertigan and Bill Garrod.

Results can be found by clicking here.

24/12/08 - Thursday Sailing...

Thursday sailing will start on the 8th January 2009. We have had a good attendance with as many as 8 to 10 boats on some Thursdays this year. Thanks to the members who help me by getting the radio and booking in. Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and New year!
Brian.

10/12/08 - New History Tab...

We have added a brief history of the club which can be viewed by clicking the History tab above. Thanks to Peter Montague for putting this together.
