There were also floating rafts of ice visible on The Broad.  As the weather is unlikely to alter in the next few days the IOM event for Saturday 11th February is cancelled.

The skippers competing in the first RM event of 2012 were greeted with a very brisk westerly wind and all decided to opt for a C2 rig. Five races were completed in record time whence the wind strengthened and it was decided to abandon sailing and retire to The Cafe. Many thanks to Peter Sutton for offering to be OoD for the morning and to our intrepid skippers for sailing in very difficult conditions. For the results click here

IOM 1st Series 14.01.2012
For the second consecutive week racing was abandoned. In direct contrast to last weekend the reason was due to lack of wind.  If the law of averages applies then next Saturday should be perfect for sailing and please remember it is a Marblehead event and we hope all RM skippers will support the event.

IOM 1st Series 2011/2 Saturday 31st December
The first event of the new series was keenly contested by ten skippers. The moderate SW wind and unseasonably warm temperatures produced excellent sailing conditions over a standard course. The quality of sailing was excellent, sporting and at times robust. All transgressions were readily admitted and penalty turns quickly taken. The first prize of a bottle of whisky went to Peter Sutton, who again sailed consistently during the event. Thanks to all the skippers and our OoD for a most successful event. 2011 IOM 19.11.2011
A beautiful, sunny autumn morning with light variable winds greeted the nine skippers. The OoD set a course demanding of both skills and memory but all agreed that it was an inspired choice in the prevailing conditions. Formal sailing finished slightly earlier than normal, but this enabled some of the many spectators to get hands on experience of IOM sailing and our thanks to Tom and Ronnie for their patience and bravery for donating their boats to this cause. A great morning enjoyed by all. For the results click here

The cost is £13 per head to include a 10% gratuity for the staff. We are allowed to bring our own wine for consumption during the meal. Yours treasurer is taking a £5 per head deposit and would be delighted to hear from you as soon as possible so that we can give The Cafe some idea of the number of diners.

2011 IOM 3rd Series 29.10.2011
A dull overcast morning with very light variable wind provided the nine skippers with challenging conditions requiring skill, patience and lots of luck. At the end of the morning most skippers were suffering from mental exhaustion after nearly two hours of concentrating on slow moving boats. For the results click here or go to the results page

2011 IOM 3rd Series 15.10.2011
A bright and sunny autumn greeted the eight skippers taking part this morning and a light easterly breeze became very light when sailing began. After the first race which took nearly half an hour to complete the 'triangle and sausage' course was shortened to just a 'triangle' with a shorter beat to the finishing line. There were some problems with loose floating weed at first but these disappeared after the breeze got up and moved to the South East. Eight races were completed during the morning and several skippers posted a win. All in all a very enjoyable sail. For the results click here

Saturday 15.10.2011
Several of the RM skippers are not available this Saturday so it was decided at the AGM that this event would be cancelled and replaced with an IOM event to be included in the winter series.  The next RM event is scheduled for 12th November and it would be wonderful to see our entire RM fleet on the water.

2011 IOM 3rd Series  08.10.2011
Fantastic News
The dedicated work by our members to clear the weed has paid handsome dividends. The course is now virtually clear of weed and providing excellent sailing conditions. Today we sailed six heats in an IOM event without any major weed problems. We are truly grateful to all the members who helped to clear the sailing area. The wind today was from a WNW direction with a moderate strength. This provided excellent sailing conditions for the eight skippers. It was very obvious that many of the skippers were 'ring rusty' after a two month lay off but,  by the end of six heats, the fleet closed up and the sailing became very competitive. Saturday 08.10.2011......GOOD  NEWS
Strong westerly winds have blown most of the floating weed to the east of our course. We have enjoyed two successful sessions of social sailing and propose to return to formal sailing on Saturday. This is an IOM event so everybody in the club will have the opportunity to join in. As it is short notice we may have to share the OOD duty on the day

Saturday 01.10.2011
The complete sailing course has now been dragged to remove weed. We are very grateful to the members who helped in this arduous task over the last three weeks and hope their efforts will be rewarded with the sight of model yachts back in the water.  The buoys have been replaced and while there is still evidence of floating weed we hope to attempt social sailing this Saturday.

Saturday 24.09.2011
Sailing is still not possible due to weed infestation in the eastern end of the course. A working party has been organised for the morning to drag the final part of the course.  More hands make the work much lighter and quicker so please come along and join in if you can

2011 IOM 03.09.2011
No sailing is possible due to floating rafts of weed.

2011 IOM 3rd Series 27.08.2011
Formal racing on Saturday has been cancelled due to weed infestation.

2011 The Final Event of the IOM 2nd series 13.08.2011
Floating rafts of weed prevented formal racing on Saturday. The spirits were revived by a short coffee break and a plan, with lots of scouting expertise, was put into action. The result was that social sailing was possible over a short course. This was much appreciated by the spectators seated on the bank who added to the occasion with vociferous support and advice.
Accordingly the 2nd IOM has been decided on the best 7 out of the 10 events sailed. For the final results click here

2011 IOM 2nd Series 06.08.2011
