7th March - NMYC held its Second Open Event, the Whitlingham Trophy.
This year we had much better conditions than last year, with a good breeze all day.
OoD Duncan Ellis took advantage of the steady easterly breeze to set the classic triangle and sausage course, so providing three good beats to windward in each race. Some small adjustments to the starting line and the windward mark were made over the first few races as the wind veered slightly.
A single fleet of twelve boats competed with close racing at the top of the field. The end of the event found Denis Astbury and Graham Bantock tied for first place with Denis winning the tie-break with his eight 1st places to Graham’s six.

As only seven heats were recorded skippers could benefit from just one discard. Click here to see the detail results and click here to see the series positions to date, or go to the results page.
